I was on the lookout for a coat rack or some unique hooks to put in the kid/guest bathroom at our house, and just wasn’t finding the right thing.
I came across this funky metal plate display rack at the thrift store one day and knew it was perfect! The little swirls would make great hooks, and it would be easy to mount on the wall.
The black was a bit boring, though. The bathroom is a long way away from receiving a full makeover. However, I’d still like to make it fun and kid-friendly, without being too childish. So clearly it needed a little love.
Cue the spray paint! I’ve only used yellow a handful of times in decorating, but it’s really grown on me in the last couple years. It’s just so cheery and bright.
I cleaned the rack really well with a washcloth, and when it dried, I did several thin coats of paint as per the instructions on the can. I was lucky enough to have a beautiful, sunny day and could do everything outside.
Apparently this shade of yellow is also Stanley/Johnson/DeWalt/No. 2 pencil yellow.
I hung this way lower than I normally would so that the kids could reach it easily. Of course, their towels still end up in piles on the floor the majority of the time, but hey. At least there’s a cute yellow rack on the wall. I love how this one turned out, and the pop of yellow makes an otherwise boring bathroom a little more interesting.
I love it! I didn’t know it was a plate rack until you told me!
