A few days ago we learned that our closing will be a little later than we planned, so we’ll be here at the campground for at least six more weeks. I am trying my best to be patient, and live like we’re just on a long vacation, but wow. I am seriously excited to finally cook in a big kitchen, take a real shower, and do laundry in a washing machine I don’t have to share with strangers. Having our closest neighbor be half a mile away is also going to be nice. These campsites don’t offer much privacy.
My husband started his new job this week, which means I’ve returned to my job as a stay-at-home mom. I’ve been setting up some routines for the kiddos, and making sure the little ones nap every day. They seem to be adjusting pretty well to camper life and Tennessee in general, though my oldest keeps complaining about the heat. Ohh, buddy. You ain’t seen nothin’ yet. Let’s talk again in July.
We’ve been spending lots of time at different playgrounds, parks and hiking areas to pass the time. I’m finally able to drive to the important places (read: the thrift store and Walmart) without needing the GPS. A general sense of direction is definitely helpful in making a place feel like home. However, it seems the gift of a southern drawl is not bestowed upon you the moment you move here, which is unfortunate. I’ve never felt more self-conscious about my Upstate New York accent than when talking to real live southerners. Maybe it’ll come some day.
I am really enjoying being in Tennessee. It’s so gorgeous here. The only way this could be any better is if we were already in our house. It’s hard not to feel like I’m missing out a little on spring and early summer there, because this is when I would be doing a ton of landscaping and yard work. I’m just reminding myself that, God willing, we have many more years of that ahead of us. And for now, I can just enjoy being on “vacation”.
