I have wanted a pig for as long as I can remember. Today my husband made my childhood dream come true when he brought home an early Christmas gift for me: four piglets, just as bristly and chunky as can be.
A couple friends graciously came over to help us put up fencing and get the pen ready. This corner of our barn was filled with junk when we moved here. Some of it was useable (lumber and moonshine jars, anyone?) but a lot of it was just garbage. So we cleaned it all out, and put the space to good use.
Aren’t they cute? The big ears! The squishy noses! The spots! I think I’m a little obsessed.
They also have an area outside the barn where they can enjoy the sunshine and fresh air. They’ve been rooting around all afternoon, and seem quite happy with their new home.
We probably aren’t going to name them, since they are feeder pigs, but I’m content to just have them around. It’s going to be an awesome learning experience for all of us as we care for them and watch them grow over the next several months. I’m so thankful that we have the opportunity to do this with our kids, so they can learn some important life skills, and also understand where our meat comes from. And, of course, I’m thankful for a wonderful husband who knows how to make his wife’s Christmas extra special.
Now that the pigs are all taken care of, it’s time to go blast some carols, frost yet another batch of cookies, and get ready to celebrate Christmas!
That’s awesome! You know you’re a true farm girl when your husband gives a gift like that! ❤️ I got a calf feeder for our anniversary and could not have been happier 😊
