We just celebrated our first Easter here in Tennessee! It’s amazing to think we’re almost done with a year of “firsts” here. In just a couple weeks, we’ll be moving on to our second time around.
Holy Week
We had a truly beautiful Holy Week- the week leading up to Easter Sunday. The kids and I did crafts together, had discussions, and watched some videos about all the events of Holy Week.
On Saturday, we colored eggs. It was fun having our own Iveyshire eggs to dye, especially with all the different shades our chickens produce. I wasn’t sure if the darker brown eggs would work, but they held the colors well and turned out super vibrant. 10/10 recommend trying it sometime!
We went to the Easter Vigil on Saturday night, and the kids practiced singing “Alleluia” in the car. It was absolutely beautiful.
Easter Sunday
We hosted Easter Sunday this year, and had two other families join us.
Since keeping things real is my MO here on the blog, I have to admit I dropped the ball on Easter baskets. I’m not sure what I was thinking, but I convinced myself I could run to Walmart 2 days before and get everything I needed. Instead I got empty shelves. Oops! Thankfully, candy is candy, and the kids are young enough that they didn’t miss all the special packaging.
I also didn’t really think about how I was going to decorate until a couple days before. I do typically gravitate toward simplicity, but I also love making things special, especially for big holidays such as Christmas and Easter. In the end I scrounged up things I had from around the house, threw it together and called it a day. Major thanks to our chickens for providing eggs that are so delightful in their simplicity, and good ol’ Walmart for some $2 faux greenery.
So for those of you who feel like you aren’t good at holidays and hosting: it’s okay! Even if you don’t want to/aren’t able to spend a lot of time or money on decorations, or you feel your home isn’t fancy enough, sometimes a few simple things you have on hand can make everything look cute. Just tidying the house and vacuuming can go a long way, too. And for those reading this who have Pinterest-worthy table settings and elaborate decor: I am in awe of you!
We also had a few outdoor crafts and an Easter egg hunt in the yard for all the kids. They had a blast!
That pretty much sums up our Easter! It’s times like these that make me feel so thankful that we live where we do. Even though our house is quite stuck in the 80’s (besides the living room!), we have enough space to invite friends over, and there is lots of room outside for kiddos to play.
I hope all of my readers had a great Easter Sunday, and hope you have a wonderful week.
