This past weekend was filled with baking, cleaning, and other last-minute preparations for Christmas! One of our family’s favorite traditions is handing out cookies to our neighbors. In all honesty, I’m not that into baking. My favorite cookies to make are no-bakes. But I sure do love putting together pretty cookie trays, so I do it anyway.
Despite our goal of keeping things simple this year, I still ended up making three different kinds of cookies. Calvin whipped up a whole bunch of homemade fudge. And by “a whole bunch”, I mean:
I’m not going to bother subtracting the weight of the containers, either, because I snapped this picture after packing up several bags of it! I guess I could stand to find a few more people to give to.
Here’s part of the assembly line for putting everything together. Not shown is another stack of plates, the trays of fudge, and the bows and ribbons. I may have also used some of last year’s Christmas cards that we had left over, because let’s face it, we all still look mostly the same, and no one in Tennessee received one last year. (This is probably the last time I’ll ever be able to pull a stunt like that.)
Once the trays were ready, we all went down our street together to pass them out. I’m not sure why it’s taken so long to introduce ourselves to our neighbors, but I’m glad we finally did! It’s great to be able to put names to the faces of everyone we’ve been waving hello to for months.
Now all the cookies are delivered, the kitchen is put back in order, and we can spend the rest of this week preparing to celebrate the birth of Jesus. (Oh, and eating fudge.)
Best post yet!
